FOOD EVOLUTION PROGRAM

The Food Evolution program aims to be an answer to the challenge of healing a dysfunctional food system, so that we may co-design a society where prosperity and resilience are accessible for all.

This program weaves together three areas of competency and we build on common sense and on contents and know-how that gather sufficient consensus, while exploring innovative and ancient practices.

The three areas: Co-Leadership (approximately 40 hours with the entire class) + Regenerative Food (approximately 80 hours with half the class) + Regenerative Agriculture (approximately 80 hours with the other half of the class).

Each participant will enroll in a 120 hour program, made up of 10 modules (one module per month) of one and a half days each. Example: the afternoon of the 6th of May plus the entire day of the 7th of May.

FACILITATION & CONTENTS

  • Co-Leadership – the CHAMAR O FUTURO facilitation team.
  • Regenerative Food – Escola de Hotelaria e Turismo de Lisboa facilitation team with support from the Food Manifesto network
  • Regenerative Agriculture – Terra Sintrópica of Mértola and the Junta de freguesia de Campolide facilitation team with support also from Joaquim Espada

The entire program is “learn by doing” and participants will work on projects in transdisciplinary teams.

DESCRIPTION OF THE PROGRAM

CHAMAR O FUTURO is dedicated to totally positive societal evolution, holding space for individual and collective contributions to benefit society at large. The Food Evolution program combines capacitation in regenerative food and agriculture, with co-leadership to improve health and well-being overall.

The first edition of this program will take place between February and November 2024, will be on campus, immersive (10 modules of day and a half each, distributed over 8 months as we will skip August) and the method ”learn by doing” – a safe space for all activists participating to learn and transform as people and as teams collaborating for food evolution.

Two classes will enrol in this program simultaneously – 20 will do the Regenerative Food component and 20 the Regenerative Agriculture component and the full group of 40 will come together to do the Co-Leadership component and some other merging moments.

We aim to offer certificates from the Escola de Hotelaria e Turismo de Lisboa to those participants doing the Regenerative Food component and from the Escola Profissional ALSUD of Mértola to those participants doing the Regenerative Agriculture component.

A. THE CO-LEADERSHIP COMPONENT

CHAMAR O FUTURO will facilitate the Co-Leadership component of the program and there are three areas, woven together, we work on: the relationship with self, the relationship within the team and the relationship with community and broader system. The “Learn by Doing” method ensures that we immediately apply what we learn on the project we are working on and thus make the know-how our own. Tools are inspired in System Thinking, Design Thinking, Dragon Dreaming, Sustainability, Societal Resilience, Synergy and Syntropy.

Our aim with this component of the program is to enhance curiosity in connection with our purpose, grow compassion for life around us and activate courage to take action in the space of societal transformation.

All in a safe learning space where our vulnerabilities are just as relevant as our gifts and leadership may be shared to bring our dreams into doing.

The program has the duration of 120 hours while this component will have the duration of 40 hours with dedicated contents for all of the 40 participants.

B. THE REGENERATIVE FOOD COMPONENT

We need to evolve into a system that encourages health and well-being (as opposed to the one we currently experience, that encourages illness and dependency on pharmaceuticals to get by) while becoming conscious of the changes we can make ourselves and grass roots in our communities to prepare healthy food, relying predominantly on plant-based, seasonal and local ingredients.

The program has the duration of 120 hours while this component will have the duration of 80 hours (mainly outside office hours) with dedicated contents for 20 participants.

The objective is to support local entrepreneurs and activists to bring the necessary transformation for a healthy food culture, bringing also a systemic understanding of food, the sector and our relationship with it.

The program will also support the development of local foods, adapted to the identity of each context, while incorporating the best regenerative practices and becoming a local attraction.

Read more about the Food Manifesto, developed over more than two years with 75 interested participants.

C. THE REGENERATIVE AGRICULTURE COMPONENT

We need to evolve into a system that encourages health and well-being (as opposed to the one we currently experience, that encourages the infertility of soils and dependency on pesticides to get by) by becoming conscious of the changes we can make ourselves and grass roots in our communities to grow healthy food locally applying the best regenerative practices and involving the community.

The program has the duration of 120 hours while this component will have the duration of 80 hours (mainly outside office hours) with dedicated contents for 20 participants.

The objective is to support local entrepreneurs and activists to bring the necessary transformation for Regenerative Agriculture within the system, both urban and rural, and our connection with land. All this integrating the principles of agroecology, sintropic farming and natural agriculture. We are looking to create the best conditions to expand Agroforestry and include the local population in contribution of their time in favour of the well-being of the entire community.

Activities may include, planting, curation of the collective space, maintenance, distribution, storage, composing, among others.
